Pretty sick,

RubyConf 2008 shows what to expect of 1.9 (ex-YARV). They speak about ordered hashes, how stupid is that ?

Can someone tell me what the fuck is going on with those Ruby guys ? What’s next, unordered Arrays ? What the fuck !

Rodrigo y Gabriela Live

Magnificent !

I just came back from a Rodrigo y Gabriela concert in Lyon, and I must say: What a show! These two are simply brilliant.

I could only get a few crappy iPhone-quality pictures but David got some videos (coming up!).

I didn’t take much as I was too excited to see them, and anyway the best way to see they rock is to check them out!

Tokyo Reality

Hi everyone,

This link has been on the right for quite some time but I watched the video yesterday, and I just had to post it here. This video is brilliant, hi-tech, japanese, stunning…

Don’t forget to see it in HD, it’s really worth it!

We came up with a nice issue at work last week, we needed / to be a resource. Unfortunately, you can’t really do that easily, and when you use the :as option, well, it doesn’t really work :(
Me and Alexis came up with the “Awesome patch” :

# Awesome Patch
# This enables the '/' resource:
# map.resources :knickers, :as => ''

# GET /blabla
# => KnickersController#show params = {:controller = 'knickers', :action => 'show, :id => 'blabla'}
module ActionController
  module Resources
    class Resource #:nodoc:
      def path
        @path ||= path_segment.blank? ? path_prefix.to_s : "#{path_prefix}/#{path_segment}"
      end
    end
  end
end

That should do the trick, now ‘/’ has become the basis for resource paths.
Please comment.

Wrath of The Lich King

Today was the worldwide lauch of World of Warcraft : Wrath of The Lich King. I made a video a while ago with my mage when I learned that the expansion would come pretty fast… I’m trying to find a way of putting it online in a nice HD format, it’s not that easy. More on that later…

For those who haven’t seen the Wrath of The Lich King Trailer, here it is :

UPS Budget Cuts ?

UPS Tracking, wow

UPS Tracking, wow

Yesterday, I received an email from UPS saying :

“Your order was delivered today at 12:06. Thank you for using UPS”.

The order wasn’t quite here thow …

I was pretty suprised, so I went to see where my order was, using a great UPS tracking system …

I made my order on 10/26/2008, which is why my parcel was in Nottingham, UK a year ago …

Maybe UPS got budget cuts and they didn’t manage to buy a new SQL Server, making the old tracking IDs reusable after a year :) . Or just a silly developer …

Anyway, that was pretty funny, the parcel arrived safely this morning :)

Not Father’s Day

“God, it’s me, Barney. What up ? I know we don’t talk much, thow a lot of girls call out your name because of me … Awesome.”

It’s simply magnificient : Not Father’s Day

It’s really sweet to have these types of videos on the web. You don’t actually need a guitar teacher anymore, these are your teachers !

The recipe is to look, practice, practice, and … practice.

I love it when these two guys play, it just seems so easy for them to play like that, and it sometimes isn’t very encouraging :(

Oh btw, these guys play in drop A# (A# F A# D# G C), you’re gonna need fat strings :p

Maybe you would like to exit your IRB elegantly once in a while.

I’ve got the perfect solution:

def elegant_quit
  eval(['e', 'x', 'i', 't'].join)
end

In a nice IRB, the result is perfect

clabesse@barney:~ clabesse$ irb
>> def elegant_quit
>>   eval(['e', 'x', 'i', 't'].join)
>> end
=> nil
>> elegant_quit
clabesse@barney:~ clabesse$

Simply Brilliant.

I’ve been dreaming about this topic for ages and never made it. Well here it is, the Snippet of the Day !

Each day (or I hope), I’ll be giving out a bit of code just for fun, or for real interesting work stuff …

I’m waiting for your comments Alexis !

We start off with something very stupid, see for yourself :

class Foo
  def initialize
    Foo.new
  end
end
Foo.new
